These specifications are effective from 1st January 2003 to 31st December 2004


General

No modifications are permitted to the standard 944 unless specifically allowed and referred to in these specifications.

All other modifications are strictly prohibited except for compliance with CAMS requirements for Sports Cars group 2B

Any changes to these specifications will be documented in the Revision History page.

All car owners will be alerted by email when a specification change has been posted.

The sending of such notification will be deemed sufficient notice to each car owner.

It is the responsibility of each car owner to notify aPorschapart of any change to their email address.

 

Engine

Engines 2479 cm3, single cam, non turbo charged, are to be standard factory specification and not to exceed factory tolerances as detailed in "Porsche 924S/944 Models Dimensions Tolerances" Item # WKD423320. This applies from and including the air flow meter, intake and injection system to the exhaust manifold branch section.

The piston swept volume must be no greater than 2500 cc.

Allowable modifications for reliability are reinforced oil pickups, fuel rail replacement, aftermarket remote oil coolers, general wiring, alternator, electrical accessories and fuse box. Components used for these modifications are free.

Balancing and blue printing of engine components is permitted.

Cross-drilling of crankshafts is permitted for the purpose of improving lubrication.

Modifications to the crankshaft for the purpose of reducing weight are not permitted.

The clutch assembly and flywheel are free.

ECU’s are to remain standard and must be inspected and sealed by the technical adjudicator prior to use. ECU's may be interchanged at the discretion of the race group controller, and must be accessible to allow easy change-over. The sealed ECU must be the only device processing engine data.

Air flow meters are to remain standard and must be inspected and sealed by the technical adjudicator prior to use. No modification or alteration to the standard air flow meter is allowed.

Sealing of engines is mandatory. Engines will be sealed by the technical adjudicator at the car's first race meeting for the year.

It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that their engine, ECU and air flow meters are sealed, and that the seals are intact prior to all events.

Only the technical adjudicator or his nominated representative may remove engine, ECU or air flow meter seals. On removal of the seal, the technical adjudicator may require some inspection take place before any other work may proceed.

A sealed engine, ECU or air flow meter may only be replaced with the approval of the technical adjudicator. The replacement component must also be sealed prior to use.

Sealed components may be inspected at any time as required by the technical adjudicator.

Balance Shafts and or the belt may be removed.

The Exhaust system is free after the manifold pipe and may exit through sill panel.

Fuel, PULP or ULP only. No additives allowed.

Standard engine mounts or functionally identical substitutes may be used.

Genuine replacement engine parts or dimensionally identical substitute parts are only to be used.

Engine measurements will be made by the technical adjudicator, or by a third party as nominated by the technical adjudicator.

 

 

Transmission             Top

Transmissions are to remain standard. Type 016J or 016K

It is permitted to install 016J Australian Spec 5th gear ratio to 016K transmission.

Gear shift linkages are free except that the original gear shift lever in the cockpit and its mountings must be retained.

Limited Slip or locked differentials are not permitted.

 

Suspension             Top

Anti-sway bars, anti-sway bar linkages, torsion bars, springs, shock absorbers and settings are free.

Original Front Struts may be modified, and must use an original unmodified 944 strut top mount.

Original stub axles must be used.

Coil over rear shocks are permitted, and may be used in conjunction with or replace the rear torsion bars.

All suspension mounting and pivot points are to be factory standard.

The original suspension bushes may be replaced by non-metallic bush substitutes.

Reinforcing of original control arms is allowed.

In car adjustment of suspension is not allowable.

Front lower control arms may be replaced by custom built equivalents. The front lower control arm to strut  joint is free.

Spacers may be added to steering tie rods to reduce bump steer.

It is recommend that the alloy version of the front lower control arm be replaced for safety reasons.

Canister adjustable shocks are not permitted.

Any redundant parts of the original suspension which are not required, may be removed.

 

Brakes             Top

Only Standard 944 floating calipers are permitted.

Brake Pads are a control component. Race Brake Comp No 6 Available from aPorschaPart.

Stainless steel flexible brake lines are recommended.

Slotting of standard brake discs is permitted.

Brake Ducting is permissible through existing body openings only. The driving light recesses are deemed to be body openings.

Adjustable front to rear brake bias is allowed but may not be adjustable by the driver while the car is in motion.

Only the original brake master cylinder is to be used.

 

Wheels             Top

8” max. Width, 15” max. Diameter

Offsets are free but the wheel rims must be contained within the standard body.

(See CAMS manual for measurement method)

The maximum front guard width shall be 1725mm.

The maximum rear guard width shall be 1740mm.

 

Tyres             Top

For the years 2003 - 2005 the control tire is to be “YOKOHAMA A032R” Size 225/50R 15.

Traction Tyres are the contracted suppliers for that period.

Tyre buffing and grooving is not allowed.

 

Interior             Top

All trim and non-structural interior components may be removed.

Seat mounts may be replaced.

Dashboard, console and door trim panels must be retained or replaced with replica equivalents.

Door and 1/4 window glass may be replaced with a “perspex” type substitute.

Roll-cage cannot extend beyond cockpit.

We recommend for safety reasons all carpets and passenger seat are removed.

 

Body & Exterior             Top

No body modifications may be made which alter the general appearance of the car from the original 944 styling.

Ducting to Radiator is allowed, but is not to extend behind the front suspension cross-member, and the maximum width of the duct may not exceed 670mm.

No ducting or intake may protrude beyond or below the front bumper bar.

Any ducting or air intake must be taken from existing body openings or behind driving light recesses only.

No under-body ground effects permitted.

All Body Panels must be of original style; front panels, sunroof insert, door skins, rear quarter panels, rear spoiler, and rear bumper can be replaced with fiberglass replicas in the 944 turbo style as supplied by aPorschaPart as control components.

An effective restraint must be attached to the rear hatch to prevent the hatch from opening more than 250mm.

Driving/Park Lights (min 55w) are acceptable as front lights and must be operational. One or two driving lights per side are acceptable.

Rear view mirrors are free subject to CAMS requirements.

Battery position is free.

Fuel tank type is free subject to CAMS requirements.

It is permissible to remove spare wheel well and non-structural brackets.

Post Race minimum weight is 1100 kg including driver and apparel.

The scales at the track are to be taken as the true measurement. It is the entrant’s responsibility to check their car’s weight on the scales at each event.

 

Signage

The nominated sponsor's signage is mandatory for all events and will be supplied to all cars.

Conditions of entry to 944 Challenge events             Top

It is a condition of entry that the entrant agrees to:

· Abide by the 944 Challenge Specifications and Controls

· Provide access for inspection of the car as requested.

· Make their vehicle available for impound and inspection as requested at an agreed place and time.

 

Inspection of Cars             Top

Cars may be inspected at any time as required by the adjudicator to verify any part of these specifications.

The adjudicator may also require cars to be submitted for inspection by the CAMS officials.

Failure to submit a car for inspection may result in a penalty being applied.

 

Lodgment of Protests             Top

Protests must be lodged as as prescribed in the CAMS manual.

 

Appeals             Top

Appeals are lodged as prescribed in the CAMS manual.

 

Penalties             Top

Penalties will be applied as prescribed in the CAMS manual.
