All the way with Sam Abay

Young Sam Abay (Koala Furniture) has set his sights on this year's title and with two wins and a second over the weekend he has leapfrogged Brent Rose (Melbourne's Cheapest Cars) to take over the points lead at the halfway mark of the Championship.

In a very wet qualifying session Robert Lange (Lange Engineering Geelong) was over half a second quicker than Abay and John Morriss (Motorsport Leasing) with Rose fourth quickest in a twenty-four car field.

Perfect conditions for the first race threw qualifying times into Bass Straight with Abay making the best start but getting swamped by Morriss, Rose and Lange on the opening lap.

Rose pulled away for a comfortable victory over Abay and Lange with Morriss knocked back down the field late in the race. Steve Canny (Mr. Brakes/RPM Clutch) and John Goddard (Plaza Auto Sales Bendigo) had a good dice while Phillip Meiklejohn (Coppens Signs), Jed Comand (PTO Network), Barry Bedggood (Bedggoods Corner of Cars) and Michael Phillipson (MIP Truck Sales) was a terrific stoush amongst the mid-fielders.

Brent Rose handed the second race to Abay when a 'stopngo" saw him go from first to last on the second lap. Abay made the most of his good fortune and opened a winning break.

Canny, Lange and Morriss was a terrific battle for second place with Joseph Dibenedetto (Required Finance) holding down fifth place for the entire race. Joseph Stoffels (Sovereign Press/Goldacres), Phillipson and Anthony Westaway (Westaway Ford Wonthaggi) was another great battle for a top ten finish, while Damian Harris (Binzel) come through the field well to also grab a top ten place.

Meiklejohn played the train driver and had Bedggood, Michael Cullinan, Andy Balodis (Motul Oils/AIM Systems), Comand, Bruce Rose (Jocaro Motors), Gary McDermott (Price Waterhouse Coopers) and Amber Anderson (Aporschapart/Veganpet) stacked behind him for most of the race in another enthralling battle.

Abay and Canny made up the front row for the feature race while Brent Rose and Goddard made up the last row of the twenty-four car field as Abay opened a break on the first lap.

Morriss, Canny and Lange quickly settled into another good scrap for second with Dibenedetto under pressure from Damian Harris (Binzel) as they battled for fifth place.

All eyes were on the terrific battle for second as they went three abreast through the Shannon's kink and into Honda corner. Canny got a little help round Siberia corner which put him into a half-spin. Dibenedetto and Harris were lucky to just miss him as they took the grass line and Stoffels went inside which saw him into fourth place and Canny back to eighth.

Brent Rose had come right through the field to be fourth at the halfway mark while Meiklejohn, Bedggood and Steve Tupek (Abbotsford Body Repairs)
was a good battle in the mid-field, as were Anderson, David McMillan (Acquise Property Buyers) and Balodis.

Westaway, Comand and Phillipson was another terrific battle raging in the last half of the race while usual top runner Goddard was taking a long time to get through the field and make his presence felt in the top ten.

Rose picked off Lange and Morriss on the closing laps but there was no was he would get anywhere near Abay who had bolted away to a terrific victory.
